Fire Detection Design Foundation Course for Industrial & Commercial Premises BS 5839-1: 2002 as amended 2004 & 2008
This is an intensive one-day course which should suit most sales engineers and any others requiring a basis for further training.
Tests are spread throughout the day, mainly multiple choice. Delegates achieving 75% in the assessment tests will receive a
pass Certificate.

- The legislation
- Guides and codes of practice relevant to fire detection and alarms
- The categories of systems for a building (i.e. L1 to L5, P1 to P2)
10.15 BREAK for 5 minutes
- Fault monitoring and circuit integrity
- Technology and system components
- Manual call point zones
- Detector and alarm zone sizes and constraints
12.45 or 13.00, LUNCH BREAK for 30 minutes
- Sounder requirements
- Siting manual call points
- Detector coverage, taking into account obstructions
15.15 BREAK for 5 minutes
- Siting detectors in pitched roofs, near obstructions
- Power supplies and standby durations
- Cable requirements and fire resistance of cables
- False alarm management and good maintenance
- BS 5839-1 Design certificate requirements.
