Module 5: Detailed Design for Fire Detection & Alarm Systems for Industrial & Commercial Premises
This is an intensive one-day course which should suit design engineers, sales engineers, CAD operators and others, requiring detailed training with the objectives of design to BS 5839-1 at acceptable cost and practicality.
Cost savings are such that delegates should be able to recoup the cost of the course when putting into practice that learnt in
the course.
Tests are spread throughout the day, comprising diagrammatic drawing for calculations and marking up. Before each test, worked examples will be explained to demonstrate the methods to be used. A plan to be marked up with detectors and manual call points will also be included in the assessment. Delegates achieving 75% in the assessment tests will receive a pass Certificate.
08.30 prompt START
- Quick revision on manual call point and point detector siting to BS 5839-1
- Detailed point detector coverage methods for best detector area effectiveness
10.30 BREAK for 5 minutes
- Working with structural beams and obstructions
- Dealing with cellular structures and closely spaced beams
- Designing smoke and heat point detector coverage for pitched roofs
12.45 or 13.00 LUNCH BREAK for 30 minutes
- Dealing with rafters and purlins under pitched roofs.
- Designing with optical beam smoke detectors and also linear heat detector cables for flat ceiling and pitched roofs
- Quick revision of alarm dBA recommendations in BS 5839-1
- Dealing with background noise and considerations for primary and secondary alarm devices
- Detailed dBA sound level and attenuation calculations, allowing for margins and tolerances
15.15 BREAK for 5 minutes
- Sound pressure calculations in rooms with a sounder in the room compared to a sounder outside
- Adding the dBA from more than one sounder
- Practical sound calculations and trial sound measurements
- Design certificate and a variation.
- Supplementary information on marking up plans with detectors and dividing into zones
