Emergi-Lite official WEEE Registration number: WEE/DH0073UQ

Emergi-Lite take sustainability seriously and our green credentials are maintained by being one part of the Lumicom Compliance Scheme. This ensures our compliance with the new 'Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment' (WEEE) Regulations that came into force in July 2007

Via this scheme, we are doing our utmost to keep the costs of recycling down to a minimum so that we can pass the benefits on to our customers and to society as a whole. The suppliers of the lamps used within our luminaires have confirmed to us that they too have joined a compliance scheme for lamps and are similarly WEEE compliant.

Since 1st July 2007, we are including a recycling cost in our invoices for all non-household luminaires supplied to our customers.

We are continuing our programme of environmental improvement in our products, making them more energy efficient, longer lasting and recyclable; all in the cause of sustainability.

The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive

The EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is one of a series of 'producer responsibility' Directives that makes EU producers of new equipment pay for the recycling and/or safe treatment and disposal of the products they put on the market when they eventually come to be thrown away.

Who do the WEEE regulations affect?

Any business that manufactures, brands or imports electrical or electronic product is known as a producer and is affected. Any business that sells electrical items or stores, treats or dismantles electronic or electrical waste material will also be affected. The legislation applies to household and non-household products.

About Lumicom

Lumicom has set up a compliance scheme that will operate by collecting disposal contributions from producers of luminaires, to pay the costs of the collection, treatment, recovery and proper environmental sound disposal at the end of life for each luminaire.

Lumicom has been approved by the Environment Agency and is registering producers. Lumicom will also formulate generic advice on the recycling of luminaires and provide sales information to enable the Environment Agency to monitor and audit collection figures against sales figures.

WEEE Regulations

From 1st July, 2007, the WEEE Regulations require producers to finance the environmentally sound disposal of non-household luminaires and the gas discharge lamps that are embodied within them.

WEEE Compliance Scheme

Under the WEEE Regulations, producers of non-household luminaires in the UK must join a compliance scheme, which, amongst other things, will be responsible for:

  • Financing the costs of the collection, treatment, recovery and proper disposal of WEEE electrical waste

Setting up systems that:

  • Prioritise the recycling or re-use of whole appliances

  • Treat electrical waste using the best available techniques for recycling and recovery

  • Report on the electrical waste treated and the electrical equipment that scheme members have put on the market

  • Declare compliance with scheme's obligations to finance the costs of recycling

  • Ensure the environmentally sound disposal of electronic and electrical waste

  • Keep records of the amount of electrical waste material delivered (or collected from) an approved exporter
